Animal Medical Center is a member of the Veterinary Information Network (VIN), an organization of tens of thousands of veterinarians who are committed to the exchange of medical information and the pursuit of excellence in veterinary medicine.

Specialists in all disciplines are available for on-line consultations on VIN and colleagues exchange information and advice about current medical issues. VIN is an amazing resource that allows veterinarians across the country and across the world to learn from each other and raise the standards in veterinary medicine through collaboration and sharing knowledge. Dr. Zucker uses VIN on a daily basis to research the most current information on unusual cases or to consult with specialists.

New treatment protocols are discussed and exchanges on VIN even before they can be published in academic journals. Revolutionary treatments can be shared in weeks instead of months or years. The use of the anti-viral drug tamiflu to fight parvovirus is just one example of a VIN shared treatment protocol that rapidly went from small scale experimental medicine to wide spread standard of care because of the effectiveness of sharing information on VIN regarding dosing protocols, effectiveness and real results. In 2005, VIN allowed Dr. Zucker to discover that infectious disease specialists at major univeristies were having success using tamiflu against parvovirus just in time to use it to fight the parvovirus outbreak that begain impacting Morgantown that winter. Using tamiflu as part of our treatment protocol allowed Dr. Zucker to achieve 100% success in treating early to mid-stage parvovirus. This is a dramatic improvement from pre-Tamiflu parvovirus treatment which often had 50% or higher mortality rates, even with the best possible treatment.

VIN allows us to practice better medicine by getting the best possible information. VIN members are generally some of the best practitioners in the nation, as they demonstrate their commitment to excellence everyday by participating in a community dedicated to increasing knowledge and practicing scientific medicine.
